|
Memorial Hospital volunteers are a diverse group of retirees, students and professionals with one thing in common: each has chosen to do something meaningful with their time. Volunteer to explore the world of healthcare, to stay active, or to get involved in your community. Whatever the reason, you will find volunteering in patient or non-patient areas to be a rewarding experience.
NEW OPPORTUNITYVolunteers are needed to help direct and guide patients and visitors to various hospital departments, testing areas and elevators. This position may also involve flower/newspaper delivery, delivering packets to units, reading materials to patients and other errands in support of the Information Desk and Volunteer Departments. Volunteer must enjoy walking and be able to push a wheelchair as this position will sometimes support One Day Surgery/Endoscopy/Pain Clinic patient discharges. Ideally the volunteer will be available two to three afternoons a week.
Volunteer Opportunities at Memorial HospitalCentral TransportationVolunteer will help deliver papers, mail and flowers. This position also involves running errand to the lab, pharmacy, and various departments throughout the hospital. Some wheelchair patient transport is possible. Volunteer must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. It is important that candidates are able to follow directions and have good communication and people skills. Thursday & Friday morning or Wednesday and Friday afternoon positions available. Gift ShopAre you looking for, or do you have, retail experience? Our gift shop needs volunteers to assist customers, ring-up sales and help maintain a clean and welcoming store. Monday and Friday afternoon positions available. Emergency Department ReceptionAs an E.D. Receptionist your main responsibility is to greet, assist and direct patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department. Opportunities available Tuesday and Friday mornings or afternoons, weekend openings are available as well. Cancer CenterThe Cancer Center is looking for someone to help with clerical taks. Tasks may include filing, shredding and collating. The ideal volunteer will be organized and detail oriented. Volunteer must be able to stand, bend and walk for long periods of time. Opportunities for Tuesday, and/or Friday mornings. PediatricsThis position may involve pulling charts, answering the phone, filing and other general office duties. Volunteer must be detail oriented and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. Openings available Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Packet Assembly Assist our hospital by volunteering a couple of hours a week putting together admission packets. This is a great opportunity for someone that works well independently, has a limited amount of time to donate, and is looking for flexible days and hours.
Physical Medicine Our physical and occupational therapists are looking for assistance with stocking supplies, maintaining treatment areas and providing general assistance with patients. Monday and Wednesday morning and afternoon opportunities are available. Surgical PlaceOur surgical waiting area needs volunteers to act as liaisons between patients, family and medical staff. This position may also involve patient transport and assembling files. This opportunity is ideal for the early riser, openings are available on weekdays from 7:30 am to 11:00 am. Other volunteer opportunities:Office and Clerical WorkerVolunteers are needed by various departments throughout the hospital to assemble packets, file, photocopy and assist with phone coverage. Positions vary and opportunities are available weekday mornings or afternoons. Patient and Visitor EscortHelping people who enter the lobby is the focus of this position. Escorts give directions or personally escort patients and visitors to their destination. The position may include some light wheelchair transport, as well as flower, paper and patient mail delivery. Weekday afternoons and early evening hours are available for someone with good customer service skills. Patient RepresentativeThis is a great opportunity for a kind, sympathetic and caring person who truly wants to make a difference. As a patient representative, you are asked to visit with patients twice a week. Afternoons or early evenings for one to two hours are the ideal shifts for this position.

Volunteer Requirements
- You must be at least 14 years old and be able to make a commitment to volunteer for at least 50 hours over a 3-month period.
- You must provide two satisfactory references
- You must provide proof of immunizations and attend an orientation session.

Once your application is received and reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule a personal interview. If you are accepted into the program and a position is agreed on, you will attend an orientation session and be instructed about how to receive immunization clearance by Memorial's employee health services. You're ready to begin volunteering!
