Job Description: Responsible for accurate diagnosis and procedure coding of inpatient and outpatient medical records. Abstracts defined information for financial reimbursement, statistical reports, hospital indices, and internal quality and external hospital surveillance studies. Performs related duties as required.
Hours: Per Diem Education: HS diploma/GED required. Successful completion of a Coding Certificate program required. Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course. Successful completion of Human Anatomy and Physiology Course. Certification: Certified coding specialist, CCS preferred Experience: 3-5 years hospital coding experience required. Computer data entry experience. Knowledge: ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding principles required. DRG and APC reimbursement systems required. Knowledge of medical records systems, Knowledge of general office procedures, Knowledge of 3M Encoding software, Knowledge of Terminal Digit filing system, Skills in computer applications, skilled at organizing and prioritizing tasks; Skilled at interpersonal communication. Ability to follow instructions; ability to work independently; ability to read and interpret data, reports, reading material, etc. Ability to use judgment in carrying out all phases of the work. Ability to meet constant deadlines; Ability to maintain accuracy in spite of frequent interruptions; possesses excellent customer service skills.

Job Description: Assigns accurate ICD-9, CPT and HCHCs codes to physician and ancillary visits upon review of medical records. Keeps charts coded in a timely manner so that claims can be submitted within five days of the visit. Reports appropriate PQrs and E-Rx measures for Medicare patients. Hours: 1st Shift (7:30am-4:00pm) Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience: A working knowledge of ICD-9, CPT & HCPS coding, medical terminology and anatomy. At least 1-2 years coding ICD-9/CPT/HCPS in a physician’s office, hospital setting or other healthcare facility. Familiar with the CMS Physician Quality Report System (PQRS) and E-Prescribing (E-Rx) incentives for physicians required. License/Registration/Certificate: Coding Certification (CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P etc) is currently preferred and will be required within one year of hire. Knowledge/Skills & Abilities: General office procedures/equipment, computer literate, excellent organizational & priority setting skills, data entry @45WPM and strong communication skills required. Special Qualifications: Knowledge of 3M Encoder is a plus (preferred)
